Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes Karis Academy’s language programs different from other language schools?

Karis Academy’s programs were designed by credentialed teachers and educators who have experience teaching children of different ages. For beginner classes, our focus is on students who are learning a language as a “second language.”  This means that whether they have grandparents/parents who speak the language or not, the language they are learning in class is not their primary language used in everyday settings.  Thus, our focus is first on speaking/understanding and basic conversation skills, secondly on reading/writing.

Our teachers have been trained in the developmental needs of children and know how to tailor instruction to engage different learning styles. Our lessons are designed to be interactive, using art, games, and music to increase student motivation. We use teaching techniques supported by educational research to maximize student learning.

We keep our class sizes small so that teachers can provide individual attention to each student and consistent feedback to parents.

At Karis Academy, we believe that all kids LOVE TO LEARN!

2. My child already knows how to speak the language. Will this class be too easy for him?

For children in our intermediate classes, the teacher will conduct a brief assessment of your child’s language ability on the first day of class. This will help the teacher better address your child’s specific language learning needs.

3. How will I know if my child is learning anything?

We know how important it is for parents to receive consistent feedback regarding their child’s progress. Our curriculum is designed so that every lesson has clearly articulated goals and a means of assessing whether the goals have been met. Teachers will provide a Weekly Class Summary each week to keep parents informed of weekly objectives and a Parent Communication Report at the end of each semester to let them know which goals their child has met and which goals they still need to work on.

4. Can I enroll in a class if the quarter has already started?

Yes, you may enroll in a class that has already started if there is still space. Each week’s lesson begins with a review of previous learning goals and builds upon them. We will help you arrange tutorial sessions as needed to cover learning goals that you may have missed. Contact us to discuss the prorated tuition.

5. What is your refund and withdrawal policy?

Registration and materials fees are not refundable. Tuition is fully refundable if a request is received in writing prior to the first class meeting. Payments made by cash or check will be refunded by check. If payment was made by credit card, 5% of the amount paid is not refundable in order to cover credit card transaction fees. Credit card payments will be refunded to original card used.

Students may withdraw at any time. Tuition will not be refunded for withdrawals after the first day of class. However, the remaining tuition amount will remain on the student’s account and may be applied toward future registrations. This credit will expire one year from the date of issuance.
